Finch and Winfield excited by Superchargers' captaincy

Northern Superchargers have named their men's and women's captains. Read what Aaron Finch and Lauren Winfield have to say.

Aaron Finch and Lauren Winfield bring plenty of experience to Northern Superchargers. They are both World Cup winners. Now they have been appointed as the team's captains.

Aaron Finch

"It feels like there’s a bit of a buzz beginning to form around The Hundred and that’s really great to see. We’ve both played a fair amount of cricket in the BBL/WBBL and the excitement that is generated in a city when a team is doing well is great to be part of.

"For me, personally, it’s such an honour to be asked to captain the men’s team. Obviously, I know Darren Lehmann really well and we understand how we both want to go about it. You can’t underestimate the importance of that. I’ve also had some good times up at Yorkshire and I look forward to seeing the fans again.

"I really enjoyed watching The Hundred Draft. I saw Ben Stokes describe our team as “the best on paper” and he could well be right. However, it’ll be 22 yards of turf in front of full houses that we’re playing on, and not paper!

"There is some serious talent in our squad though – both overseas and local.

"We’ve got a really great spine with the likes of Adam Lyth, Adil Rashid and David Willey, and they know what it takes to win games of cricket up at Headingley. Then you add in the likes of Mujeeb Ur-Rahman and Chris Lynn and it gets pretty exciting. I just can’t wait to meet the guys next summer and have that first net."

"As Finchy says, there’s a lot to get excited about. For me, it was when I saw the standard of overseas players in the women’s competition that it struck me just how good The Hundred will be.

"Obviously, we’ve got one of the best ones in Alyssa Healy – but the rest of the teams are lining up quite nicely as well. It’s been a lot of fun talking to the other England girls about who’s going where and who we’ll each be lining up alongside.

"That said, there’s only one team I’d want to be in and that’s Northern Superchargers, and not just because we’ve got the best sponsor either. Alyssa is a brilliant signing, one of the best T20 players in the world game, and we’ve got Linsey Smith signed up as well who has proven to be one of the best T20 bowlers in the country.

"Dani Hazell and I are busy working away to sign up the rest of our team. We want to try and keep a core of players together and add players who we believe can move us forward. It’s a bit like playing Football Manager, trying to fill the teams with the right players and tick the right boxes but I know that the Superchargers are going to be a team that the other sides won’t fancy coming up against."
