Twice the fun today at The Hundred
NEWSThis afternoon, the competition’s first double-header gets under way between the Birmingham Phoenix and the London Spirit.
Double the excitement, double the entertainment and twice the amount of thrilling cricket action – that’s what’s promised in today’s first The Hundred double-header.
Both the women’s and men’s teams of Birmingham Phoenix and London Spirit will begin their The Hundred campaigns, looking to emulate the success of the Oval Invincibles, whose teams won their respective women’s and men’s matches on Wednesday and Thursday.
At Edgbaston at 3pm, the Phoenix women led by England wicketkeeper Amy Jones take on London, captained by Jones’ international skipper Heather Knight. Then, at 6.30pm, it’s time for the men to take to the pitch.
With just 100 balls, every one counts in the race for The Hundred Final on 21 August at Lord’s so don’t look away and miss the pulsating action.
Birmingham rap star Lady Sanity will also be dropping in to perform and ensure the atmosphere at Edgbaston is as red-hot as the weather.
On the visiting side, Knight is joined by England teammate Freya Davies and Deandra Dottin, who’s sure to become a crowd favourite for her explosive hitting. For the Spirit men, expect outstanding fast bowling from Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir and big hits from Australian Josh Inglis.
Birmingham men will be powered by the spin twins of homegrown Moeen Ali and South Africa’s Imran Tahir as well as the batting of Kiwi Finn Allen and captain Chris Woakes. In the women’s team, future star Shafali Verma has already earned 29 caps for India at just 17 years old, while Issy Wong and Emily Arlott will lead the pace attack.
Watch on Sky Sports Main Event from 2.30pm.
