The Heroes who make The Hundred
NEWSStunning performances lit up The Hundred on the opening Saturday. Take a look at the players who made the day.
Stafanie Taylor
Stafanie Taylor is one of the world's greatest cricketers. Fact. She also could have played professional football. She is that multi-talented. Her West Indies debut came when she was only 17 and 13 years later she is almost untouchable. Today she smashed 45 in quick time and took a wicket to get Southern Brave off to the best possible start.
Marchant de Lange
Marchant de Lange's had an unusual journey to The Hundred. He was initially drafted by Manchester Originals in 2019, but not retained for this year. A month ago, he was called into replace Wahab Riaz for the opening matches. Fierce, fiery and above all fast, de Lange made his mark. Five wickets in his 20 balls blew away Southern Brave. Fun fact: he loved javelin as a child and it influenced his bowling.
Jemimah Rodrigues
She's an Indian legend in the making. Just 20 years old but was the calmest person inside Headingley. Northern Superchargers were out of the game. They'd scored only 19 and had four batters out. But Rodrigues took control and won the game with a Jem of a performance. She was given her first cricket bat at the age of three - that probably explains it.
Qais Ahmad
Another 20-year-old who proved invaluable to his side winning their match. He took four wickets but none as important as Harry Brook, whose 62 looked to be giving Northern Superchargers a chance. Ahmad bowls spin but it was his quicker ball, a complete surprise delivery, which proved most lethal. He's one of the growing group of Afghanistan youngsters taking the world by storm.
