Who are the captains in The Hundred 2023?

All eight teams have confirmed their captains for the 2023 competition, which begins on 1 August.

As time ticks closer to the start of The Hundred in 2023, all eight teams have announced their captains.

So, let's look at the confirmed captains below ahead of the first match, between Trent Rockets and Southern Brave, on 1 August. 

Birmingham Phoenix

  • Eve Jones
  • Moeen Ali

English batter Eve Jones is Birmingham Phoenix's new Women's Competition captain for 2023. In the Men's Competition, Moeen Ali continues to lead the side, as he has since 2021.

London Spirit

  • Heather Knight
  • Dan Lawrence

Heather Knight missed the Women's Competition in 2022 due to injury, with Charlie Dean taking the reins in her stead, but Knight is back for 2023. Dan Lawrence takes up captaincy in the Men's Competition following Eoin Morgan's retirement.

Manchester Originals

  • Sophie Ecclestone
  • Jos Buttler

Originals were in need of a new Women's Competition captain, with Kate Cross no longer a squad member. They'll be led in 2023 by their highest wicket-taker in 2022, Sophie Ecclestone. In the Men's Competition, Jos Buttler continues as captain for a third year.

Ecclestone:

"The Hundred is such a great competition to take part in, and I can’t wait to lead the girls out at Emirates Old Trafford. I like what we’ve done in the Draft, we’ve got the makings of a world-class side, and hopefully, our fans will come out in their numbers as ever to cheer us on."

Northern Superchargers

  • Hollie Armitage
  • Wayne Parnell

Northern Superchargers have gone with experience in 2023, naming Hollie Armitage and Wayne Parnell as captains. Armitage led the women's team in 2022, while Parnell impressed in last year's competition and has had an excellent winter, captaining Pretoria Capitals to the final of the South African T20 competition.

Oval Invincibles

  • Dane van Niekerk
  • Sam Billings

No change at The Kia Oval. Dane van Niekerk and Sam Billings remain captains for a third year. Van Niekerk's side have won both Women's Competition trophy finals.

Southern Brave

  • Anya Shrubsole
  • James Vince

No surprises here. Anya Shrubsole led Southern Brave to the Women's Competition finals in 2021 and 2022. James Vince captained Brave to being the first Men's Competition title winner.

Trent Rockets

  • Nat Sciver-Brunt
  • Lewis Gregory

It's the same again in 2023 for Trent Rockets, with Nat Sciver-Brunt and Lewis Gregory remaining captains. Gregory will aim to lead the men's side to victory once more, having lifted the 2022 trophy at Lord's.

Welsh Fire

  • Tammy Beaumont
  • Tom Abell

Tammy Beaumont continues as captain in the Women's Competition, having taken up the role after joining in 2022. New recruit Tom Abell takes the reins in the Men's Competition. 

Abell:

"I jumped at the opportunity to come and take a leadership role with [head coach] Mike [Hussey] here at Welsh Fire. I’m really excited by the challenge that lies in front of us, and we’re both really keen to bring some success to Welsh Fire."
