Wondering how the squads for 2024 are picked? Let’s get you up to speed!
STAGE ONE:
PLAYER RETENTION
Teams have up until Thursday 29 February to retain players from their 2023 squads.
Women's teams may keep a maximum of eight players.
Men's teams can keep up to 10 players, plus one Centrally Contracted England star. If teams do not retain a Central Contract player, there will be a draft to ensure all teams have one.
Teams do not have to use all of their retention slots, allowing them more picks in The Hundred Draft, Powered by Sage.
For both competitions, players can agree a different salary band to the one they were on previously - either higher or lower.
Deadline Day has now concluded. For full details on the squads as they stand, click here!
STAGE TWO:
THE HUNDRED DRAFT, Powered by Sage
Teams will then have the chance to fill in the gaps in their squad. This will happen during The Hundred Draft, Powered by Sage.
Every player who enters the Draft will have a reserve price. This is the lowest amount of money that they can be signed for. But they can receive more money if a team wants to offer it!
Both competitions will have their own Draft. Teams will take turns to select players. Draft orders will be the reverse of the final standings from 2023.
Women's draw order:
- Birmingham Phoenix
- Manchester Originals
- London Spirit
- Oval Invincibles
- Trent Rockets
- Welsh Fire
- Northern Superchargers
- Southern Brave
Men's draw order:
- Northern Superchargers
- London Spirit
- Birmingham Phoenix
- Trent Rockets
- Welsh Fire
- Southern Brave
- Manchester Originals
- Oval Invincibles
Women's teams will draft players until they have filled up the top 13 positions in their squad.
Men's teams will draft players until they have filled up the top 14 positions in their squad.
Every squad, across both competitions, is allowed a maximum of three overseas players.
There is one complex thing during the Draft! Each team get one "Right to Match" option. This option enables a team to re-sign one of their 2023 players they didn’t previously retain when a rival team offers to buy them during the Draft.
Teams using their "Right to Match" have to offer the same salary as the player’s prospective new team. If they have already filled up all their slots at that band, the option isn't available.

STAGE Three:
THE Vitality Wildcard
Following The Hundred Draft, Powered by Sage, there will be a couple more players selected for each squad. This is done via The Vitality Wildcard Draft.
This is done closer to the start of The Hundred, strengthening the competition's link with the Vitality Blast and further rewarding domestic form. It means players who weren't selected in the main Draft can still pick up a contract.
The two lowest salary slots in both the Women's Competition and the Men's Competition will be left free for these picks.
In the Women's Competition, each team will nominate one "designated marquee player." In the event that this player needs to be replaced before or during the competition, that team could bring in another overseas or domestic player.
And that’s it! Squads will be complete ahead of The Hundred starting on 23 July.
