How Women's Player Selection Works

How Women's Player Selection Works

Starting 1 September 2019 eight brand new women’s teams will be selected. This is how it works.

  • Two stage open-market system for picking eight brand new women’s teams
  • A pool of some of the world’s best players
  • 1 September to 30 September 2019 stage one of the player selection process
  • 1 October 2019 to 30 May 2020 stage two of the player selection process

September 2019 sees the opening of player registration for The Hundred, in both the Men's Competition and the Women's Competition.

While selection in the Men's Competition will be via a Player Draft on 20 October - the first-ever of its kind in UK sport - the Women's Competition will have a separate bespoke player selection process, with players selected across a two-stage, open-market system, with a standardised salary band structure.

Stage One - England Stars

During stage one of the player selection process (1 September - 30 September), each team is obliged to sign two players from the current 21-strong England Women’s central contract list.

Stage Two - International stars & The best cricketers in the country

Stage two of the player selection process (1 October 2019 - 30 May 2020) will then see each team sign their remaining 13 players from across three different player pools: the remaining England Women’s centrally contracted players, overseas players and domestic players.

Teams can sign a maximum of one further England women’s centrally contracted player during stage two and can sign a maximum of three overseas players.
