Rain puts pay to Invincibles clash with the Rockets
NEWSPersistent rain has led to the Women's Hundred match between the Oval Invincibles and the Trent Rockets being abandoned - but the men's fixture will start at 20:20.
The Oval Invincibles and Trent Rockets had to make do with a point apiece after a damp afternoon in South London rained on the parade of both teams. But a further inspection has decided that the men's fixture will start at 20:20.
The umpires are waiting on a further inspection at The Kia Oval
Rain, shortly before the start of what promised to be a thrilling women's match between the Oval Invincibles and the Trent Rockets saw the umpires, rather than the players, take centre-stage in South London.
A warm-up was as close as either team got to action at The Kia Oval
With the Invincibles in third and the Rockets in fourth, the outcome of a completed contest would have had a significant bearing in the shake-up for the eliminator.
Dark clouds hang stubbornly over The Oval
The umpires were hopeful that the game could start at 17:30 but what would have been likely to be a 30 ball contest wasn't possible as the rain returned. The match saw both teams awarded a point each, leaving The Women's Hundred table unchanged, with the Invincibles in third place and the Rockets in fourth.
Excited young fans wait expectantly for the game to start
The Rockets' next match will be against the Birmingham Phoenix on Friday. The Invincibles, meanwhile, meet London Spirit on Saturday. This afternoon's washout means there is still plenty to play for.
